Newnham Chickens
The grandmother and uncle of Joan Jeffrey, a local historian in Canterbury, lived in a cottage opposite the 'Old Forge' pre 1940. Joan told Ruth (Nosiadek) that the call for gathering chickens to be fed was "Coupie! Coupie! Coupie!" and that this was peculiar to Newnham.
