Newnham Village HallThe village hall was erected on the site of wooden buildings, which had served as a butchers shop - the butcher living next door at Rose Cottage. The hall was originally erected serve as a church day school and came into existence through the influence of the elvey family. The school flourished until 1876 when Doddington Board School opened. The building then became a Sunday School and in the 1890's also a private infants school.

Eventually the hall was bequeathed to the village by the Elvey family to be under the auspices of the Parish Council. Contained in the deed of the gift is the proviso that the hall should be available on Sunday for use by the church as a Sunday School . The Parish Council maintained the hall until the maintenance of the hall transferred to the village hall management committe by Trust Deed; this enabled the committee to apply for various grants to improve facilities in the hall.

Miss Elvey's photograph hangs promintently in the village hall.
