Penham House
Contributed by Tony Gostling
Penham House was built in 1826. About 1893 Mr Geoge Wiseman opened a grocer's shop built on what is now the front garden of Penham House.
Archibald Bennett took over this business early in the 1900's and was succeeded by a Mr Goodgate around 1907.
In 1928 the shop was owned by a Mr George Curd (proprietor) and when he died in 1949 the business was continued by his wife until 1953.
In 1955 the shop was puled down and the house became a normal domestic residence again.
Evidence of the shop can still be seen if you look to the left of the front door.
