A 12th Century coaching inn at the centre of the rural village of Dodddington. A real country pub, with real ale & real history. The Chequers was said to have been used as a 'smugglers dump' in the 14th & 15th centuries

The Chequers won a local Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) 'Pub of the Year' award in 1995 and the following year took the Kent and South-East England 'CAMRA Pub of the Year' title. In February 2005 The Chequers Inn won The Morning Advertiser 'Best Village Pub' award for the London and Home Counties region.
In November 2003 the Chequers pioneered wireless
satellite broadband ; the pub is now a Wi-Fi hotspot and
supplies wireless internet to the village.
From February 2004 a mobile Post
Office has been opening in the pub on Monday afternoons. Both events
attracted much media interest and the Chequers featured on local television
news programs, local radio and also in local and national newspapers and
magazines. A live television broadcast of the BBC 2 program 'Business Lunch'
also took place here.
